We checked this book out of the Library a few weeks ago. The first thing that attracted the kids to the book was the giant T-Rex on the cover and the bright, colourful illustration. This continues throughout the book with each page sporting lots of different colours in the same 'blocky' illustration.
As you open the book there is a double page spread of all the dinosaurs that feature within the story with a phonetic guide on how to pronounce their names..useful for parents and kids alike. My two were able to pick out the ones they knew and enjoyed learning the names of the dinosaurs they hadn't seen before.
As a Parent it took me a couple of read through to figure out the 'rhyme' to the story and I found it didn't flow especially well at times. The kids didn't seem to mind though and still enjoyed the story as it explored each dinosaur individually, describing it's appearance and/or characteristics. I liked that there was quite an educational element to the book, teaching the kids dinosaur names, features and personalities. Oviraptor cared for their eggs while Triceratops locked horns and Iguanadon chomped on plants.
We would recommend "Stomp, Dinosaur, Stomp!" to young dino fans of pre-school age and younger. The bright, 'blocky' illustration will appeal to little ones but there is quite a lot that can be learnt within the pages, even as an adult.
